Friends of the Downtown – 2017 Programs

January 26, 2017 Former Chancellor James Moeser and his UNC faculty wife, Susan, shared their experiences of living and working Downtown, attending UNC concerts, sports and speakers, and just walking around the area.


February 23, 2017 Greg Overbeck, Co-owner and Marketing Director of the Chapel Hill Restaurant Group, including Spanky's and 411 West, discussed
issues facing Downtown restaurants. 

March 30, 2017 – Dwayne Brinson, Director of the Orange County Tax Office,
explained the process of the assessment that is currently under way.

April 27, 2017Laurie Paolicelli, Executive Director of the Chapel Hill –
Orange County Visitors Bureau
reviewed the current $184 million industry and discussed "A Dozen New Initiatives to Grow Tourism in our Backyard."

May 25, 2017 – Jeff Furman, Vice President for Development for Northwood Ravin, gave an informative presentation of the activity at Carolina Square. Both residential and commercial are over 70% leased, including Target and a pizza place.
